Local SEO
Local SEO isn't complicated, but it is easy to neglect. Here are eight things worth checking on your own business right now, in order of how much impact they usually have.
1. Google Business Profile completeness
Is your profile filled out completely: hours, phone number, website, categories, services, photos? An incomplete profile is a missed opportunity every time someone searches for what you do nearby.
2. NAP consistency
Your Name, Address, and Phone number should match exactly across your website, Google Business Profile, and every directory listing. Even small mismatches (a suite number here, a missing "LLC" there) can quietly hurt how much Google trusts your listing.
3. Reviews, and how you respond to them
Do you have a steady, ongoing stream of reviews, or a pile from three years ago and nothing since? Are you responding to them, good and bad? Both the volume and the recency matter.
4. Website mentions of your service area
Does your website actually say the city and neighborhoods you serve, in real sentences, not just buried in a footer? If your site never mentions "Philadelphia" anywhere in the actual content, you're making it harder for Google to connect you to local searches.
5. Title tags and meta descriptions
Do your page titles include your service and your city? A generic title like "Home - Acme Plumbing" tells search engines almost nothing useful. "Emergency Plumber in Philadelphia | Acme Plumbing" does a lot more work.
6. Citations on other sites
Are you listed accurately on the sites that matter, Bing Places, Apple Maps, Yelp, industry-specific directories? These citations reinforce your legitimacy and local relevance.
7. Mobile experience
Most local searches happen on a phone. Load your own site on your phone and try to find your phone number and hours in under five seconds. If you can't, neither can your customers.
8. Google Maps embed and schema markup
Is your business location embedded directly on your website, and does your site have basic schema markup identifying you as a local business? These are small technical details that help search engines understand exactly who and where you are.
The bigger point
None of these require a big budget, most take an hour or less to check and fix. Local SEO is mostly about consistency and completeness, not tricks. Run through this list today, and you'll likely find at least one or two easy wins.
